Retour à Disentis / Back to Disentis

L’été dernier, je suis passé par Disentis, dans les Grisons, en route pour Pavie (Italie) via le Col du Lukmanier, et par endroits mon chemin coïncidait avec le Camino grison (n°43). Disentis est le point de départ de ce chemin « Rhin – Reuss – Rhône » qui passe près des sources de ces trois fleuves majeurs de la Suisse, via les cols de l’Oberalp et de la Furka.

Comme je me suis trouvé « dans le rouge » par moments en 2019, sur le plan physique, cette année je serai accompagné, ce qui me permettra de faire des étapes moins longues et de porter un sac moins lourd. Mon épouse Donna vient avec la voiture, et trois autres personnes vont se relayer pour marcher avec moi sur le chemin. J’espère arriver jusqu’à Brigue, à mi-chemin entre Disentis et St-Maurice, ayant déjà fait l’autre moitié en 2008 lorsque j’ai marché du Lac Léman jusqu’au Col de la Furka, pour découvrir toutes les paroisses protestantes du Valais, mon « nouveau » canton à l’époque.
    Départ depuis Disentis prévu le samedi 18 juillet.

Last summer I passed through Disentis, in the canton of Graubünden, on my way to Pavia (Italy) via the Lukmanier Pass. At times, the trail coincided with the Camino there (trail n° 43). Disentis is the departure point for this “Rhine – Reuss – Rhone” trail, which passes near the sources of these 3 major rivers in Switzerland, via the Oberalp and Furka Passes.

Since I pushed things to my physical limits in 2019, this year I will be accompanied, which will allow me to do shorter stages and not carry as much weight in my backpack. My wife Donna will come along with the car, and 3 other people will take turns hiking with me on the trail. I hope to make it to Brig, which is about half-way between Disentis and St-Maurice. I already did the other half in 2008 when I hiked from St-Maurice to Brig on my way from Lake Geneva to the Furka Pass, discovering all the Protestant parishes of the Canton of Valais, my “new” canton at the time.

Camino Rhin - Reuss - Rhône

J’avais prévu plusieurs marches pour cette année 2020… avant que le COVID-19 ne chamboule tout ! Pour finir, les structures d’hébergement se sont rouvertes en Suisse, les mesures sanitaires ont été assouplies et je vais pouvoir faire une bonne marche au mois de juillet, celle que j’avais prévue sur le nouveau raccordement du Chemin de St-Jacques (Camino de Santiago). Celui-ci traverse 2 cols alpins, puis descend la Vallée du Rhône jusqu’à l’abbaye de St-Maurice, en passant par le village de Saillon, où nous habitons depuis ma retraite, il y a 4 ans.

I had planned several hikes for the year 2020… up until COVID-19 upset all my plans! In the end, lodging structures have opened up again in Switzerland, the health restrictions have been relaxed a bit and I’m going to be able to do a good hike in July, the one I had planned on a new link for the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago). This trail crosses 2 Alpine passes, then goes down the Rhone River Valley to the 1500-year-old abbey of St-Maurice, passing through our village of Saillon, where we’ve been living since my retirement 4 years ago.
