8 juillet / July 8th : Serres

​Notre guide Cornelia nous attend au cimetière de Serres, une autre colonie vaudoise. Puis elle nous montre l'église vaudoise, la Place Patou'a, et d'autres maisons. Elle nous raconte aussi les terribles bombardements des alliés en avril 1945, qui ont tué 80% de la population 😪... "parce que les SS insistait qu'il fallait continuer de résister, convaincus qu'ils allaient encore gagner la guerre..."

Our guide, Cornelia, meets us at the cemetery in Serres, also a Waldensian colony, and then shows us the Waldensian church, the Place Patu'a, and other houses. She also tells us about the terrible allied bombing of this town in April 1945, which killed 80% of the population 😪... "because the SS insisted on  continuing to resist, still convinced that they were going to win the war..."

Si vous zoomez sur ces photos, vous pourrez lire l'histoire du Vaudois de Luzerne, dans le Piémont, Antoine Seignoret, qui a été le premier à introduire les pommes de terre dans cette région du Wurtemberg, en 1701. Sans lui, pas de Kartoffelsalat ni de Pommes Frites par ici !

If you zoom on these photos, you can read (in French...) the story of the Waldensian Antoine Seignoret, from Luzerna in the Piedmont, who was the first one to introduce potatoes to the Wurtemberg area, in 1701. Imagine: without him, no German potato salad, no fries in this area!

Monika

Notre "ange" ce matin était Monika, qui est arrivé en vélo à un endroit où nous essayions de traverser une route. Elle s'est arrêtée pour parler et nous a donné de bonnes infos sur les sentiers et les lieux que nous allions traverser aujourd'hui, plus une bonne dose d'encouragement. 

This morning's "angel" was Monika, who arrived with her bike at a place where we were waiting to cross a highway. She stopped to talk and gave us good info about the trails and the places we would pass through today, plus her encouragement. 

Wanderpass

Comme sur le Camino de Santiago, nous essayons d'avoir un "Stempel" chaque jour dans notre carnet, dans les lieux où nous passons. Ici, il n'y a pas toujours dans les hébergements alors parfois on passe à la mairie (Rathaus) pour qu'on tamponne nos carnets.

Like on the Camino de Santiago, we try to get a rubber stamp in our pilgrim passports each day in a place we pass through. In this area, there is not always a stamp in the places we stay so we stop at the town hall and ask them to stamp our "Wanderpass".

GPS...

Le chemin n'est pas toujours bien balisé... alors Jean-Philippe doit se référer au GPS pour nous trouver un chemin convenable. 

The way us not always well-marked... so Jean-Philippe has to use his GPS to find a decent way to get to the right place.
