Hier soir, dans l'hôtel où j'étais hébergé à Sulz Am Neckar, j'ai fait connaissance avec Warren et Jenny, d'Australie, qui font plusieurs semaines à vélo en Europe. Et ce n'est pas leur première fois...  Une discussion très intéressante qui s'est poursuivie le soir au souper et encore ce matin au petit-déjeuner. Je suis impressionné et touché par leur engagement à améliorer le système de santé chez eux, à rendre possible les bons soins pour des gens de tous les milieux sociaux-culturaux.

Yesterday evening, in the hotel where I was staying in Sulz Am Neckar, I met Warren and Jenny, from Australia, who are cycling in Europe for several weeks. And it's not their first time...  It was a very interesting discussion that continued into the evening at supper and again this morning at breakfast. I'm impressed and touched by their commitment to improving the healthcare system back home, to making good care possible for people from all social-cultural backgrounds.

Bien sûr, il me manque le temps d'évoquer tous les autres qui ont pris le temps de répondre à nos questions, de nous aider à trouver le chemin... ou trouver à boire, ou à manger... Avec une mention spéciale au gérant de l'hôtel à Deisslingen, qui nous a préparé un excellent repas le dimanche soir, après qu'un autre restaurant avait refusé de nous servir (même du pain...) quand on est arrivés à 18h58, une heure avant leur fermeture... 

Of course, I don't have time to mention all the others who took the time to answer our questions, help us find our way... or something to drink, or to eat... With a special mention to the hotel manager in Deisslingen, who prepared an excellent meal for us on Sunday evening (his day off), after another restaurant had refused to serve us (even bread...) when we arrived at 6:58pm, an hour before they closed...

Rencontres / Encounters (1)

Ce qui me touche le plus dans mes pèlerinages et autres longues marches, ce sont les RENCONTRES. Comme celle avec Ute, à Rottweil. Mardi matin, ayant quitté la ville et étant descendu vers la rivière Neckar, où se trouve une vieille fabrique de "poudre noire", une dame "tout juste pas encore 60 ans" me dépasse à vélo... puis revient pour m'inviter à boire un verre d'eau chez elle, peu après. Elle et sa famille ont beaucoup voyagé à vélo et connu l'hospitalité, qu'elle essaie d'exercer à son tour. Très chouette discussion avec elle.

What touches me most in my pilgrimages and other long walks are the ENCOUNTERS. Like the one with Ute in Rottweil. On Tuesday morning, having left the town and gone down to the Neckar river, where there's an old "black powder" factory, a lady "just shy of 60" passed me on her bike... then came back to invite me for a
glass of water at her place, shortly afterwards. She and her family have travelled a lot by bike and have experienced hospitality, which she in turn is trying to practice. Very nice chat with her.
