La Via Francisca du Lukmanier (VFL) : Départ! Off I go!

Demain, c'est le départ pour un nouveau pèlerinage :  la Via Francisca du Lukmanier, encore une route du Moyen-âge pour les pèlerins allant à Rome... 500 km entre Constance et Pavie. Elle est aussi appelée "Route des Empereurs", car les chefs du Saint-Empire romain l'empruntaient pour rejoindre le Saint-Siège. Elle part de la frontière Allemagne-Suisse, au bord du Lac de Constance, passe par le Liechtenstein, les Grisons, puis les Alpes via le Col du Lukmanier (Lucomagno en italien), avant de traverser le Tessin du nord au sud. Encore 130 km in Italie, et on arrive à Pavie, où cette route rejoint la Via Francigena qui conduit le pèlerin à Rome.

Cette fois-ci, je vais cheminer seul...  probablement le meilleur moyen de retrouver l'essentiel de l'esprit pèlerin. Mais il y aura certainement plein de rencontres et, qui sait, peut-être quelqu'un d'autre marchera à mes côtés pour une étape ou plus ?

Tomorrow, a new pilgrim journey begins: the Via Francisca Lukmanier, another medieval route for pilgrims on their way to Rome...  500 km from Constance to Pavia.  It's also called the "Way of the Emperors", as the leaders of the Holy Roman Empire travelled this way between Germany and the Holy See.  It starts at the German-Swiss border, on the shores of the Lake of Constance, goes through Liechtenstein, the Swiss canton of Graubünden/the Grisons, then over the Lukmanier Pass (Lucomagno in Italian), before traversing the canton of Ticino from north to south. Then another 130 km in Italy before arriving in Pavia, where this route links up with the Via Francigena, main route for pilgrims on their way from France to Rome.

This time I will be hiking alone... probably the best way to renew with the essential pilgrim spirit. But there will undoubtedly be many encounters along the way and, who knows, maybe someone else with hike alongside me for a stage or more?
