Lundi 13 juillet / Monday July 13th : Flehingen – Gochsheim – Menzingen – Tiefenbach

 

Ce matin, Hans-Peter vient nous ramener à Flehingen, où nous avons arrêté hier. Ils nous offre encore des cadeaux : des casquettes bleues brodées avec le nom de leur association locale vaudoise de Grossvillars, et l’emblème des vaudois : le chandelier entouré des 7 étoiles qui représentent les 7 Eglises persécutées de l’Apocalypse, et la devise « Lux lucet in tenebris » (la lumière brille dans les ténèbres).

This morning Hans-Peter drives us back to Flehingen, where we stopped yesterday. He even offers us gifts: blue caps embroidered with the name of their local Waldensian association in Grossvillars, and the emblem of the Waldensians: a candlestick surrounded by 7 stars which represent the 7 persecuted churches of the Book of Revelation, and the motto “Lux lucet in tenebris” (the light shines in the darkness).

Un dimanche tranquille / A quiet Sunday hike

Nous rejoignons vers midi la prochaine localité, Oberderdingen, où nous pouvons déjà déposer une partie de notre paquetage au B&B Stevenson House, où nous allons passer la nuit. Puis nous marchons jusqu’à Flehingen, où nous apprécions une bonne glace en attendant que Hans-Peter vienne nous ramener à notre B&B en fin d’après-midi.

We arrive around noon at the next town, Oberderdingen, where we can already unload part of our backpacks at the Stevenson House B&B, where we’ll be spending the night. Then we hike to Flehingen, where we enjoy a nice cup of ice cream while waiting for Hans-Peter to take us back to the B&B at the end of the afternoon.

Waldenser Museum – Grossvillars

 

Hans-Peter nous fait visiter le musée vaudois ici. On retrouve beaucoup d’éléments qu’on a déjà vus dans les autres musées vaudois visités précédemment, mais avec le commentaire personnel de notre guide du jour.

Hans-Peter gives us a full tour of the Waldensian Museum here. We find a lot of the same elements we also saw in the other Waldensian museums visited previously, but with the personal commentary of today's guide.

Parcelles de terre / Plots of land

Chez les immigrés Vaudois, comme ici à Grossvillars, les parcelles de terre étaient étroites et longues. On trouvait partout la même disposition : deux maisons avec pignon sur rue, un espace entre deux qui menait à l’écurie et aux terres cultivables derrière.

Among the Waldensian immigrants, like here in Grossvillars, the plots of land were narrow and long. The same layout could be found everywhere: two houses facing the street, with a space between them leading to the stable and the farmland behind.

12 juillet / July 12th : Grossvillars / Großvillars

En 1699, 379 Vaudois de Villar Perosa s'installèrent dans un village composé d'une longue rue principale et d'une petite rue transversale. Certains d'entre eux déménagèrent dès 1701 à Kleinvillars, dans la commune voisine de Knittlingen. L'église fut construite vers 1750. Jusqu'en 1850 environ, les habitants de Großvillars élevaient des vers à soie dans des plantations de mûriers et fabriquaient de précieux tissus de soie dans une manufacture.

In 1699, 379 Waldensians from Villar Perosa settled in a village with one long main street and one cross street. Some of them moved in 1701 to Kleinvillars, in the neighboring town of Knittlingen. The church here was built in 1750. Until about 1850, the residents of Großvillars raised silkworms in mulberry groves and produced fine silk fabrics in a factory.

Our guide in Grossvillars is Hans-Peter, who will also be an “angel” by driving us on the trips we had planned to take by bus between the trail and the place where we were able to find lodging.

Kleinvillars

Dans ce village fondé en 1699 par 90 immigrés vaudois du Val Chisone dans le Piémont, nous avons vu des maisons avec inscriptions en occitan et, grâce à « l’ange » Marianne rencontrée près de l’ancienne mairie, nous avons fait la rencontre avec Roland, un descendant de ces vaudois.

In this village founded in 1699 by 90 Waldensian immigrants from the Val Chisone, we saw houses with inscriptions in Occitan and, thanks to “angel” Marianne whom we met near the former town hall, we had a nice encounter with Roland, a descendant of those Waldensians.

Alexandra + Wolfgang

Dans la forêt entre Ötisheim et Ölbronn, ce couple de marcheurs sportifs nous ont donné de bons conseils et nous ont offert une boisson fraîche aux herbes dans un café au prochain village. Dans la conversation en chemin, où nous avons évoqué des défis personnels, Alexandra disait que nous avions été des « anges » les uns pour les autres, réciproquement. Une belle rencontre !

In the woods between Ötisheim and Ölbronn, this athletic couple gave us some good advice and then offered us a cool drink made from local herbs at a café in the next village. As we talked along the way, and shared about personal challenges, Alexandra said that we had been “angels” for each other in this special encounter!
