St-Maurice -- Aigle (Illarsaz)

Après une nuit courte -- ah, ces fichus Américains qui nous obligent de payer des impôts là-bas après 40 ans ici... et donc de remplir une déclaration d’impôt avant mon retour de pèlerinage ... -- j'ai mis du temps à finir mes préparatifs et à partir de l'Abbaye de St-Maurice ce matin... à midi !  Mais C'EST PARTI, à présent ! Un paquetage plus lourd que je ne pensais (je n'avais pas compté le pique-nique...) donc une mise en route un peu lente, le long du Rhône, mais j'ai pu faire les 16 km jusqu'à Aigle, et son magnifique château (fin 12e siècle) entouré de vignes.  Un retour aux sources, en quelque sorte, comme c'est justement à Aigle que Donna et moi avons établi notre première résidence en Suisse, en 1976. Venus "pour une année", on n'aurait jamais pensé qu'on allait rester 40 ans !

After a short night -- ah, those darned Americans who make us pay taxes there after 40 years living here in Switzerland... and so I had to finish my tax declaration before my return from this pilgrimage... -- I had trouble getting started this morning, finishing my packing and finally leaving from St-Maurice Abbey... at noon ! But I'm ON MY WAY, now ! A backpack heavier than I thought it would be (I forgot to count the picnic...) and so a more sluggish start, along the Rhone River, but I was able to do the 16 km to Aigle, with its magnificent castle (end of 12th century) surrounded by vineyards.  Back to my "roots" in this country, as it was in Aigle that Donna and I first lived in Switzerland, in 1976.  We came "for one year", and would never have thought that we would stay for 40 years !
