Le premier « Stempel » a mettre dans notre passeport de pèlerin est censé être au fort de Navan, à environ 5 km à l’ouest d’Armagh, l’ancienne capitale de l’Ulster et siège des rois, site qui rappelle la culture païenne des clans que Patrick a rencontrés au 5^e siècle. Nous pensions y aller en bus, puis revenir à pied à Armagh… mais il n’y a pas de bus. Alors nous y allons à pied… mais arrivons juste au moment de la fermeture du « fort, malgré l’aide de Pat, rencontré devant sa maison au bord de la route, qui nous amène en voiture pour le dernier km. Mais le parc – et l’accès au « Stempel » - sont toujours ouverts, comme le snack-bar/gift shop, alors nous pouvons mettre la marque requise dans nos passeports de pèlerins. Et en repassant chez Pat au retour (à pied), il nous ramène à notre logement à Armagh – très sympa ! De toute manière, on aura fait trois fois plus à pied aujourd’hui que les 5 km prévus !

The first “Stempel” to be stamped in our pilgrim’s passport is supposed to be at Navan Fort, about 5 km west of Armagh, the ancient capital of Ulster and seat of the kings—a site that evokes the pagan clan culture that Patrick encountered in the 5th century. We had planned to take the bus there and then walk back to Armagh… but there’s no bus. So we walked there… but arrived just as the fort was closing, despite the help of Pat, whom we met in front of his house by the roadside and who gave us a ride for the last kilometer. But the park—and access to the “Stempel”—were still open, as was the snack bar/gift shop, so we were able to get the required stamp in our pilgrim passports. And when we stopped by Pat’s house again on the way back (on foot), he drove us back to our lodging in Armagh—very nice of him! In any case, we ended up walking three times as far today as the planned 5 km!
