Newry

When we finally arrive in Newry, we can’t find “stamper” No. 6, even though it should be easy to find downtown. The problem is that the building where it’s located is behind the walls of a renovation site at City Hall… and no one thought to let pilgrims know about it. We’ll check tomorrow at the tourist office, where “stamper” No. 7 is supposed to be located.

We get a little lost downtown, but we eventually find our “gîte” for tonight… which is located on a beautiful property. We almost feel awkward walking in… but we’re warmly welcomed by Danny, the owner, who lets us into the apartment we rented for the night. Classy… and we can use the machines to wash our laundry and dry it.

That said, by the time we settle in and take a shower, it’s almost 9 p.m. when we arrive downtown to look for something to eat. Even the pub where we’d planned to eat is already closed… There, they recommend the fast-food place “Friar Tuck’s,” a little closer to the center, where we manage to get two cheeseburgers and some drinks. It’s past 10 p.m. by the time we head back to our lodgings.

When we arrived in Newry, a young man approached us and wanted to give me a “gift.” It was a pin… from the IRA! Around the image of a fighter brandishing his assault rifle was a slogan: “They may kill the revolutionary, but never the revolution!” ” I didn’t dare refuse this “gift”, to avoid provocation, but Michel was quite right to point out that this item could very well complicate our passage through customs or other checkpoints. It’s better to throw it in the trash to avoid any trouble.
