Notes samedi/Saturday 9 juin 2018

The sun is back! It brightens the lovely surroundings: the wildfowers, the rocky slopes of the mountains, the rivers and streams swelled by the snow melt high above us... and the towns and villages we pass through...
After 24 km (and our first long uphill stretch) we arrive in Novalesa, charming town of 550 residents and the last stop in Italy before we cross over into France tomorrow. As we walk through the village, I ask a local man for directions to our B&B; his name is Luigi and tells us that he is himself "Valdese" (Waldensian)! Delighted to hear that we are both pastors in the Reformed Church -- "Waldensians" for him -- he invites us to his house, then he and his wife Mireille walk with us to our B&B, telling us all about the local history...
