Saluzzo + Torre Pellice

   Après un voyage sans histoire en voiture depuis la Suisse, nous avons visité la prison de La Castiglia à Saluzzo (Saluces) où sont morts des centaines de Vaudois en 1686, dans des conditions déplorables de l'époque. C'est de Saluzzo que part la "Voie de l'Exil" que nous allons suivre.
   Puis nous sommes allés à Torre Pellice, où j'ai vécu une dizaine de camps "caté" avec des jeunes. Nous sommes montés à Angrogna, puis à la grotte, la "Ghiesa della Tana" qui nous laisse imaginer la célébration du culte protestant dans la clandestinité et la crainte... Rencontre là avec Adriano, personnage passionné de l'histoire des Vaudois et habitué de nos camps de caté, qui nous fait visiter l'école Beckwith. On a pu le retrouver grâce à Mattia, son jeune voisin qu'on a pris en stop en montant depuis Torre Pellice. Une "coïncidence" ? .... Difficile à croire...
   Puis un excellent repas au Vecchio Piemonte, restaurant à 2 pas de notre hébergement à Torre P.

   After an uneventful trip in the car from Switzerland, we visited the La Castiglia prison in Saluzzo, where hundreds of Waldensians died in 1686, in the terrible conditions of that era. Saluzzo is the starting point for the "Waldensian Exile Route" we will be hiking.
   We then drove to Torre Pellice, where I helped with 10 youth camps. We went up to Angrogna, then to the cave, the "Ghiesa della Tana" which helps you imagine celebrating a worship service in hiding and in fear... Nearby we met an old friend of mine from our youth camps, Adriano, a passionate Waldensian filled with knowledge of their local history, who opened the " Beckwith School" for us to visit. We were able to meet up with Adriano thanks to Mattia, a young graphic artist we picked up hitchhiking along the way up from Torre Pellice; he lives 2 houses away from Adriano... Coincidence? Hard to believe...
   Finally, an excellent meal at the restaurant "Al Vecchio Piemonte" near our lodging in Torre P.
