We follow the trail to Neidenstein, where
we have to take a train (one stop) to get to our hotel in Waibstadt, since we
couldn’t find any lodging along the trail. Unfortunately, our hotel is closed
until 5:30 p.m., as are all the bistros here, apparently. It’s hot, so we
decide to go to City Hall (Rathaus) to get a stamp for our hiking passes.
There, the receptionist not only stamps our passes but also points out a fresh
water dispenser just a few steps from her counter. We drink our fill, and in
the excitement of this stroke of luck, I exclaim to her, “Ich liebe dich!” At
that, she bursts out laughing, and Jean-Philippe wonders if I’ve lost my mind
in this heatwave…
In the evening we eat on the hotel terrace
(Biergarten). A good meal. Surprise however when we go to pay: none of our
credit or debit cards are accepted; a good thing we carry some cash for such a
situation… which will be the case several times on this trip.
