Un dernier cadeau: encore un « ange » ! A parting gift : another “angel” !

Once we returned to Neckarsteinach by bus, to spend the last night of our trip in the hotel, we stopped on the terrace of an ice-cream parlor, to taste his goods… and to write a few postcards, in the shade of the parasols.

Jean-Philippe had said the day before that, after all the contacts we had with the Waldensians and their history during the first week, it was too bad that we were finishing the trip without much reference to these Protestants who had become immigrants by force. As for me, I had said that it would have been nice to meet a church colleague, to link this “historical” hike with the church of today.

As we were finishing our postcards, a couple came and sat down near us on the terrace. Seeing our backpacks, the conversation soon began. And that’s when we learned that the wife, Gelinde, was a “lay preacher” for the Protestant church here… and also a descendant of Walloon refugees who came to Schönau seeking religious freedom! An incredible way to end our extraordinary trip!
